As the iconic industrial building’s use is changing into an amazing art space, we were asked to visit the soon to be converted Temple Works to see the collective industrial paraphernalia left behind from the building’s previous inhabitants. The reason was to be inspired by what we found to create an art piece to be exhibited at the launch of the space that celebrated its history.
We discovered and photographed an old ceramic plaque listing 10 great excuses to use for why you may not have done something requested of you during your working day. Scribbled on in biro, was an additional, 11th reason – ‘Because Doris said so’. Our installation evolved these excuses into screen printed posters and also into audio to capture the essence of what we found and to try and represent our important and central focus of our inspiration, our idea of the character of Doris.
